February often feels like the last month of winter, we expect to see Little Egret, Little Grebe and all the winter wildfowl such as Shoveler, Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall and Pochard and even our Ferruginous Duck may even still be around. Fieldfare and Redwing will be about, as will Siskins and hopefully some Lesser Redpoll. Hardy residents like Great Crested Grebe and Kingfisher will already be pairing up and the first Shelduck may be about, as might our first Redshank. If it is a sunny day, we might see Little Owl and Skylarks singing as they rise higher and higher, with so much blossom and bulbs already appearing, we should see more colour this February than ever before.
